Director ID is a unique identifier that directors need to apply for once and keep it forever. From November 2021 directors will need to verify their identity as part of a new Director ID requirement.
When to apply
You can apply for Director ID from November 2021. If you are planning to become a director, you can apply before you’re appointed.
When you must apply for director ID depends on the date you become a director.

How to apply
The Director ID application will be available from November 2021 at https://www.abrs.gov.au/
Failure to apply for a Director ID within the required time frame will leave you open to both criminal and civil penalties. It is one of the first initiatives under the Modernising of Business Registers Program and will be a legal requirement.
